Calendar of Events
The Town Council members work very hard for the residents of Dagsboro. Their number one goal is to represent the citizens of Dagsboro to the best of their ability. You may only see them once or twice per month during Council meetings or special workshops, but behind the scenes, they are constantly making administrative decisions and researching matters so they can make the best decisions during their meetings. There isn’t a day that goes by where a council member isn’t at the Town Hall, helping out the staff with mailings, phone calls, letters, and the list goes on. The Council members deserve kudos! Listed below are some enhancements that Council has made throughout Town since January 2006: v Purchased and hung new Christmas Lights, Snowflake Banners, and ‘Welcome to Dagsboro’ Banners along Main Street, Clayton Street, Vines Creek Road and Armory Road v Increased the town’s income significantly by updating fees for housing developments and commercial developments v Cleared out Katie Helm Town Park and planted trees along the property line for buffering. Also installed a gazebo and new sign at the park. Worked with Del-DOT to devise a streetscape project and worked with State Senators and Representatives to acquire funding for this project.
The Planning & Zoning Commission has been diligently working on numerous matters since their inception in November 2005. They work many long hours for the betterment of their community, and they do all of this for free! They deserve kudos! Thank you for all you have done commissioners. Listed below are just a few things they have accomplished: v Drafted and adopted a Woodlands Preservation Ordinance – This establishes standards and requirements for the protection and planting of trees and woodlands.v Drafted and adopted Sign Regulations for all zoning districts – The purpose of this is to encourage the effective use of signs as a means of communication, avoid visual clutter and unsightly displays, promote the safety and convenience of pedestrians and motorists, and to minimize the adverse visual effects on nearby public and private property.v Drafted and adopted a Buffering, Screening and Landscaping Ordinance – These regulations are intended to ensure land use compatibility, promote the greening of development, improve aesthetics, ensure adequate provisions of open space and protection of trees.v Drafted and adopted Development Design Standards – The purpose of these standards is to create development and redevelopment that meet visual and aesthetic objectives set forth by the town. These objectives include: Build on the rich historic heritage and character of Dagsboro, create an environment that emphasizes beautification on each project, maintain the scale and texture of development, encourage creative designs for sites and buildings, support pedestrian movement and the use of transit and bicycles, protect and enhance the Town’s environment for living and working in manners that support and stimulate business and industry, and promote the desirability of investment and occupancy in business and other properties.
